Memoria

Apichatpong Weerasethakul - 2021

Jessica, the owner of an orchid farm, visits her sister who is sick in hospital in Bogota. There, Jessica befriends Agnes, an archaeologist from France, who is studying the human remains found in a tunnel construction site in the mountains. Jessica begins to hear a loud sound, a ‘bang’, at daybreak. It is an internal sound which only she can hear. At the same time, she suffers from insomnia that drives her to roam the Bogota streets at night.

Jessica leaves Bogota and spends time with Agnes near the tunnel construction site. Without sleep, her ‘bang’ symptom progresses. By the stream Jessica comes across a strange man whom she spends an afternoon with. The mountains are dynamited as the tunnel’s new route is started. Columns of smoke drift across the surrounding landscape.
